What is rBGH?

That's why we use only fresh pasteurized sweet cream from cows not treated with artificial growth hormones (also known as Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone, rBGH, Bovine Somatotropin, or rBST).
rBGH is a genetically modified hormone designed to increase a cow's milk production. There are many concerns about the effects of rBGH on animal and human wellness, and the farmers who provide our cream are committed to producing the freshest dairy products using effective and humane practices.
The largest producer of rBGH has launched an aggressive campaign against companies who label their products as rBGH-free. At Kate's, we believe consumers have the right to know what's in the products they purchase. That's why our packaging plainly states, "From cows not treated with rBGH."
